Is there a protest to Occupy wall street? Chances are you probably never heard about it or saw on your TV channel. Its been almost two weeks when these virulent protests started and now they seem to grow day by day and spreading to other cities like Los Angeles and Chicago. The tenet of these protests is basic, financial corruption, no jobs, and no careers, and a basic sense of inequality in a sinking economy. People in the age group 18-35 are having a tough time and unable to cope with this prolonged and devastating recession that started on the Wall Street. They are flocking Wall Street and physically attacking the very same financial institutions that have disabled them from a better future and life in America. They have a right to express themselves and protest. You may think that is fair, but they are being ignored by the US media.

HOW THE MEDIA WORKS

What started on September 17 th  2011 has now grown into a movement. Celebrities like Michael Moore and Oscar winning actress Susan Sarandon have come to support. The Media has completely ignored the event.   But with the star power, they had to report it and they did it  in a muted fashion. You wonder when there is protest or gathering in far off  Arab lands like Tahrir square , Tripoli or Tunisia the media is all over the Arab world and imprints every little detail and throws a un- stoppable barrage. You can’t barely escape its fury. But when the events unfold in our own country ,and in our own backyard, and in New York City and Lower Manhattan, where the media is hunkered, you don’t hear a thing.  There is an utter silence. The gatekeepers decided you don’t need to know this and blocked your mind set turning to into something which could dislodge the rich and powerful elite.

US MEDIA AND THE FADED EMPIRES

The media in the US is made up few giant sized news outlets. But with the proliferation of Internet, it  is at best degraded from its former glory. Those were the days when cigar chomping fat cats would dictate a copy, order what’s good for you to listen, and show that on national TV.  But not anymore. Now there is a thing called  Web  and there are web site like the one you are reading now, who have just as much control on the news as they have. The proverbial inkwell is now replaced by the mighty Internet. It’s funny to see how these cigar chomping,  aging , fat cat,  Media moguls are sitting  like bewildered rabbits in this fast moving stream of digital divide. They are completely  out of their wits ! Some of them don’t know how to operate laptops and depend on others. Some of them can’t even make payrolls, and their printing presses are sitting idle, and inkwells dried up.

WHY THE MEDIA IS SILENT?

The media does not wants you to know there is a protest against big banks, there are people getting arrested ( 80 protesters were jailed on Saturday) and there are people who are angry at the inequality of rich and the poor. The media protects the rich and powerful  elite. They are cut from the same cloth as the rich Wall Street Barrons and Institutions. They are their mouth pieces. They hardly have sympathy to the poor in America or those who have suffered long and hard in these times of economic distress. The economic distress that was caused by few people on Wall Street. The media is afraid if they show these images and struggles in their own backyard and from Lower Manhattan and next door to America’s financial center the Wall Street, that public sentiment will turn against the rich and powerful, and there will be a massive onslaught of protests from an already impoverished populace. In this case the protesters don’t have to convince the rest of the country, because they have suffered already.

Protesters brandishing signs “End the Fed” and “Down with Wall street” and “You took my parents house” marched up Fifth Avenue near Union square on Saturday and clashed with Police. They were arrested for snarling traffic and blocking pedestrians and tangling with Police. Protests against Wall street enters 13 th day and things got uglier than before. Dozens of protesters were manhandled and maced on the street as they tried to occupy Wall Street. The coalition protesting big banks and the recession and downward spiral in this country has its volunteers thrown into jail. Some were dragged off the street and things turned into a complete bedlam. The resentment and frustration against the economy is now turning up on the street as evidenced by these videos. After three years since Wall street inspired recession took hold of the country young people who graduated from college and those who would have careers in place by now have have literally hit the Wall.
